Laundry Surprise

I did a load of laundry in the morning. One of the perks from working from home. In the afternoon I pushed to get another load done. I noticed the wash basin the washer empties into had some gunk on the bottom. So I poured some bleach into it. I figured the washer water would wash the bleach down the drain soon enough.

I went upstairs to do some more work. Then I smelled the bleach. I knew there would be some smell. But it was too strong. Something must have been wrong. I went downstairs and found the wash basin full of water. If the water got too high, I was going to shut off the washer. Eventually the thing drained very slowly.

When the water was finally gone, I looked down the drain. There was some stuff obstructing the water flow. I got the long screwdriver. Started scraping out some stuff from the drain. 25 to 50 percent of the drain was totally obstructed. Finally I pulled out a penny. The thing got stuck down there. Whew. Got to keep an eye on that drain. The thing runs fine, for now.

Mold Invasion

Momoko and I had a growing mold problem on the ceiling of our bathroom. It was disturbing. You got to take care of the problem. Otherwise mold spreads like crazy.

I got all white clothes on. Then I applied bleach to the ceiling. It took care of the mold. However it was not easy. The bleach kept falling down on me. Hopefully my hair does not get bleached white.

Kit Kat took care of the kids bathroom last summer. They had a smaller mold problem on the ceiling. But like I always say, you got to attack mold problems early. Otherwise you will have bigger problems later.

Climbing Trees and Chasing Planes

Momoko and I got up early this morning and headed to the airport. The traffic was light. So we stopped off at Burger King for some breakfast close to the airport. Weird people kept try to enter the exit from security in the airport. That causes all kinds of automatic alarms to go off. It kept us awake.

We saw the kids pass the exit. Kit Kat was sporting a ball cap. Little Kat had a new shirt on with words like "welcome da lobsta". He was proud of it because he bought it with his own money.

When we got home I decided to finally deal with a tree situation on our street. Down the street there is a tree in a neighbor's yard. The branches hang down over top of the street where we drive. The wood hits the top of our cars as we drive by. I gave the owner some time to realize and deal with this tree. No luck.

I packed up my handy truck with my ladder, saw, and gloves. Then I drove past the place where the branches hung. I parked my truck so nobody would drive around the corner and knock me off my ladder. The larger branches were hard to cut off. I think I did a good job. Packed all the limbs into my truck and drove back home. In the driveway I chopped up the limbs and bagged then for the trash man.

Finally this afternoon I bleached our shower. The mold just keeps coming back. Bleach is the only cure. The problem is that the bleach fumes always knock me out. Hopefully I can get some more rest later. Good thing I took this day off work to deal with the kids. Otherwise I would really be knocked out.

Washing Machine Blues

This weekend I worked with Little Kat to see if bleach could get the black out of my clothes. Recall that a crayon left in the dryer made my clothes have spots. Well Little Kat could not wash out the stains. And neither could the bleach.

Here's where I ran into even more trauma. After putting the bleach in my whites, and letting them set, I ran the load of whites in the washing machine. My clothes did not clean. I'm not talking about the black stains. I mean there was dirt on the clothes after washing. A rewash did not help.

Today after work Mamma Kat talked me into going shopping for a new washing machine. I like the Home Depot. At first we thought we might try one of these newer front load washers. However we found a standard top load washer that was huge. We had a lot of questions about the machine.

Mamma Kat got mad because we could not get anybody to help us in the appliances section. When the "appliance guy" came, he confessed he was actually from kitchens, and did not know much about appliances. Neither did anybody else. My plan is to return tomorrow to see if we can find an appliance salesman in the store. Otherwise its off to Lowes or Sears.
