Happy Hunger Games

Momoko and Kit Kat visited a weird restaurant today. So Little Kat and I were on our own. We walked up to a restarurant we knew well. It was a long walk both ways. I slept most of the afternoon because of that. I woke up hungry. The family returned to the restaurant for dinner. Then we headed West for the good movie theaters.

Momoko was eager to see one of the earlier shows. Hunger Games was playing every 30 minutes, so I was not worried. We arrived just after one of the shows started. I checked with the ticket lady. She told me only one fourth of the tickets had been sold already (the theater was not crowded). We decided to watch the movie immediately instead of waiting for the next one.

Some of Little Kat's friends warned him that the movie was not that good. They were wrong. I have not read any of the books. But the movie was quite exciting. I jumped out of my seat at least once. There were many stars in there. I did not recognize the lead actress (aside from the Hunger Games hoopla). Her initial love interest in the movie is the boyfriend of Miley Cyrus.

Now we are hooked, and are ready for them to do the second movie installment from the Hunger Games series.

The Bike Solution

Momoko signed the family up for membership at the local pool. Kit Kat and her friends usually walk there. It is not too far away. However the last time Little Kat tagged along, he complained that the walk was too much for him.

Little Kat proposed that he be allowed to ride his bike to the pool. Sounds like a good solution to me. Little Kat told me he needed a few items to make this happen. We did some shopping last weekend to hook him up.

First Little Kat needed a lock to secure his bike at the pool. Check. Next Little Kat said he needed a replacement helmet as his old one fell apart. Check. Finally Little Kat said his bike seat was too small and hard. We tried to buy him a replacement seat. But he was concerned he could not attach it easily to his bike. We bought him a "seat cover" that provides extra cushion.

Now we are all set up for swimming this summer.

Two Rolls

Kit Kat has a project due this weekend. She needed to do a video with her friends. So her friends were going to come over our house to work on it. She called up their friends. They said they would walk over to her house.

I was impressed because her friends live a few miles from our house. When they got here, I took Momoko and Little Kat out to eat. This was to get us out of their hair. We went to this restaurant that specializes in appetizers.

Momoko got brave and ordered Vietnamese shrimp spring rolls. How bad could it be? The things came out looking like jellyfish. And they were served chilled. Yikes. I took a shrimp or two out and ate them with spicy sauce. Only Momoko ate a whole spring roll. Little Kat ate half of one. Yuck.

On the way home, we drove straight out of the shopping center. There was a car blocking traffic on the opposite side, trying to make a left turn against us. It was a new Rolls Royce! I have only seen one of these in person one other time in my life. The thing costs something like $400,000 without options. License plate was a vanity one, saying "JEZEUS". I wonder what that was about.

Attack of the Ducks

There is plenty of parking at my work. However by the time I get there, I have to park far away from my building. Normally that does not matter. A nice walk in the morning is good for me. That is all fine unless I am carrying my big bag with my computer. Then it is a chore to trek from the remote parking lot.

That is why I was excited when they built a new parking garage right next to my building. It seemed to take forever before they were done. Then it opened to the building residents. Things were great. There was always enough parking right by my building. Then the ducks came.

There always seemed to be ducks in the neighborhood of my building. That is no big deal. They stick to themselves. However one pair of ducks became annoying. Apparently the one ducks laid some eggs. She built her nest right on the walkway from the parking garage to my building. And daddy duck would attack anyone who came near. The construction guys closed off the walk between the parking lot and building. Then they started roping off more and more area around these ducks because papa duck kept attacking people walking from the garage. This darn dark even flew up at me a couple time. He seemed to wander around a bit, but kept thinking he needed to protect the nest. The nerve of these ducks. I tell ya.
