Day 5 House 3

The last house we saw today was of great interest to us. It was located close to Momoko and Kit Kat's school. There was a tree down in front of the walk to the front door. We had to climb up a hill to get in. Little Kat noticed that there were two large pillars in the entry way. I saw some brick stains above the garage doors. The garage itself smelled heavily of gas. However the garage ceiling was really high.

The mud room in the basement had some mold on it. There was a really big carpeted room in the basement with a fireplace. It had a small kitchen with electric stove down there. The ceiling had some water damage. There were huge built in shelves at the one end of the big room. The room had a hall which led to a bathroom with bath tub. The hall ended at a small bedroom with a low 6 foot entry door.

The main level had a kitchen with wood floor. There were laminate counters with a lot of space. The second electric stove was in the main kitchen. There was a big pantry closet. The kitchen opened to the dining room, which had two sliders to the side deck and back yard. The dining room was connected to a living room making a very long room.

There were large windows on the main level with great overlooking views. The next door neighbor to the back had a fence, and the neighbor to the side had a mean looking German Sheppard. The main floor also had a laundry room with shelving. There was one bedroom with a fireplace in it. There was also a master bedroom. The master bathroom had a very large dated vanity. There was also a bath tub in there. Nice windows allowed much sunlight into the master bath.

The banister on the stairs leading to the top floor was wobbly. There was one bathroom with a bath tub up there. And there were two massive bedrooms up there as well. Kit Kat and Little Kat got real excited. The first bedroom had two closets. One was a walk in cedar closet. It also had a bump out sitting area. The second bedroom had three closets. It also had a bump out sitting area.

Most of the land with this house was heavily sloped down. The two car garage had a deck over it with questionable wood (might be in an early stage of rot). Overall the house was large. Having seem almost 20 houses so far, this one was either the best or second best overall. It was a short sale listed for $300k. I need to decide whether we want to make an offer on this one.

Day 5 House 2

Momoko and Little Kat rode with Momoko's real estate agent to the second house we would be seeing today. Kit Kat and I drove Momoko's car there using her GPS. We got there quickly. The front of the house had an ugly blue color. The front bricks on the house were all worn. The garage door was damaged. I think I noticed the front imperfections because it took another 5 minutes for Momoko to arrive at the house.

Before we entered the house, the agent warned us that some water was left on in the house. And there was some water damage. We entered the house and it stunk. Little Kat was making all kinds of funny noises because of the smell. The stairs leading up had the carpet and wood removed, leaving some nails exposed.

We entered the living room which was a mess. Kit Kat said there was some strange white fungus growing where the carpet used to be. We saw a hole in the ceiling, which must have been due to the water damage. I asked Momoko if there was any reason to continue the house inspection. She could think of no reason to go any further. So we were off to house number 3.

Day 5 House 1

We saw some more houses today. The first had a back yard that sloped downward away from the house. It had a good location at the end of a cul de sac. However it was also 15 seconds aways from the local firehouse.

The carpet was stained all over the house. The kitchen had a center island. I did not like the laminate counter tops. The garage was for 2 cars but seemed small. The master bedroom had a long walk in closet. The shower was moldy. However there was a big tub as well.

The bath in the hall upstairs also had mold, and seemed to be coming apart at the seams. The bedroom that Kit Kat claimed had a weird shape, and was adequate in size. The bedroom claimed by Little Kat had a broken window seal.

The basement was a total maze that wrapped you around to 2 bedrooms. Not a good layout at all. This house was a foreclosure listed at $320k. There was not a good value present in the house.

Day 4 House 4

The last house of the day had some curb problems. The color choice was bad. The front had some damage to the wood. The concrete in front of the front door was cracked. The living room was a good size. There was a small deck that had the wood starting to rot. However there was a fully fenced back yard with a privacy fence.

The kitchen had very little counter space. It was not open. And it only had room for some appliances. There was no large breakfast nook like other houses. There was a second living room with a fireplace and hard woods. The main level had a room with a washer and dryer. Garage had some plywood in the rafters for limited storage.

Wood stair leading up had a wobbly banister. Then at the top of the stairs the handrail was missing. All the carpets on the main level were trashed or missing. Two of the bedrooms were small. Another bedroom had two closets. The hall bath was dirty.

The master bedroom had a small bath tub. The walk in closet was small as well. The only good carpet in the house was in the basement. There was a large room in the basement. There was a carpeted bathroom with shower down in the basement. There was also half of the basement with tiled floor. Momoko spotted some water damage near the outside door.

Little Kat noticed the steps leading to the basement did not feel solid. This house was listed for $300k and was vacant. However it still did not seem like a good deal.

Day 4 House 3

The third house we saw today had a good sized carpeted living room. The kitchen had nice floors and a granite counter with center island. The kitchen opened to a family room with gas fireplace and cathedral ceiling. The back yard had a small deck with built in bench. However the shape of the back yard was weird. A center garden was empty. It backed to a park.

The master bedroom was a good size. There was a big bath tub, separate shower, and dual vanity. That was the only good thing about the top level. Each of the other three bedrooms were small. So was the hall bathroom.

The basement rooms we saw were carpeted. However a majority of the basement was behind a locked door we could not open. They had another tenant downstairs. The family inhabiting the house was there as we viewed the house too. Their agent did not inform them we were coming. Not good. Listed for $325k which was too much,.

Day 4 House 2

We were excited to go to the second house for today. It was supposed to have an indoor swimming pool. Now the picture above is not the actual house. The one we saw had a huge front porch that spanned from one end of the house to the other. It was on a dead end street.
The main level had the laundry. There was a lot of counter space in the kitchen. It was strange that there was no exit to the back yard from the main level except through the garage.

The back yard was a steep upward slope. There was actually a pergola on the lowest level. A metal shed was on the second level elevation of the back yard. A Rubbermaid shed was at the top of the property. The whole back yard was fenced in with a chain link fence. Atop the garage was a solar panel to heat water.

The master bedroom only had a shower. However the second bedroom had a walk in closet. The third bedroom was as huge as the master bedroom. The fourth bedroom was also big. Nice. The garage had a pull down stairs for storage above.

The basement had a little wet bar sink. It also had a weird black sink which our realtor said must have been for a beauty salon. A corner of the basement looked as though they were still finishing it. The basement had a deep bathroom with a shower. There was unfortunately no indoor pool as advertised. Listed for a nice $275k.

Day 4 House 1

Went house shopping again today. First house had a nice front lawn. Unfortunately the back lawn was flooded with standing water. Kit Kat would not walk in the back yard because of it.

The kitchen was the best part of this house. It was open to the breakfast nook and living room. There were granite counter tops with a center island. The sink had a faucet spout you could pull down and spray.

This house also had a carpeted sun room. It led out to a nice patio. The back yard had two sheds in it. It was also fully fenced with a privacy fence all around.

Master Bedroom was delicious. There was a huge tub and separate shower in there. There were dual vanities as well. The master had an open door to the second small bedroom. Although it was not small, the master bedroom was not huge either.

The upstairs hall had a washer and dryer. The other bedrooms upstairs were small. There was a small bedroom and shower in the basement. Outside the basement was a clogged drain in the walk up stairs to the back yard. The street outside was a bit busy. Not a short sale or foreclosure. But listed at a whopping $350k.

Easter Plans

I invited my parents over to our house for Easter next Sunday. Kit Kat will make us a nice dinner. There was just one problem. Where would everybody sit? Momoko wanted us all at one table. Our dinner table sits 4 comfortably.

We have a table with folding legs downstairs. So we brought it upstairs. However it only seats 4 as well. Momoko wanted to somehow extend this table to seat the required 7.

That's when Momoko came up with the great idea. We could buy a small card table to sit at the end of our table. Her old car used to have such a table built into the back. But she sold it. Kit Kat and I went off to Wally World in the truck to buy a table.

There was a bonus surprise at Walmart. The table we found came with 4 chairs. Little Kat was impressed that the folding chairs actually had padded seat. The box with the new table was too big to bring in the side entrance to the house. We had to open up the double doors at the front entry. Once unpacked, we found it to be the perfect supplement to our existing folding table. Easter dinner here we come,

Suspicious Cat

I had to work late today. It was strange when I came home. Momoko's car was not in the driveway. I opened the door to the house and heard Little Kat running.

It is always bad news when Little Kat is running. That means he is doing something he is not supposed to. I found that he was watching Pokemon movies on Momoko's laptop.

I asked where everyone was. Apparently Momoko and Kit Kat had to go to the dentist. They left Little Kat alone. Trouble.

Then I inquired who was cooking dinner. Little Kat said he thought Kit Kat was in charge of dinner. This sounded strange. Later Little Kat said he would help Kit Kat by putting her dinner in the oven.

Now that sounded very strange indeed. I told Little Kat that we needed to call Momoko to clarify dinner plans. That is when Little Kat said that he remembered he was supposed to cook dinner. It was definitely time to kill the Pokemon movie. Finally I quizzed Little Kat on the dinner choice. He was going to throw some frozen dinner in the over. Now I wanted some side dishes, so this Little Kat needs a lot of supervision I see...

Day Snatcher

I thought my day was planned out perfectly. I would have an early doctor's appointment and then have plenty of time to finish up a paper for school. The day started off exactly how I had envisioned it until.....the evil sickness took over. That was yesterday and I have no idea where yesterday went. It is almost like someone stole 24 hours from me and I am going to try to get it back. I was suppose to go to another doctors appointment today but I was too sick to go so I rescheduled until next Wednesday. I also took another day off work. I have almost been off a whole week now. Good think Spring Break is coming soon!

Every Cat is Sick

Yesterday Kit Kat said she was not feeling well. So we put her to bed in the afternoon. She was sick to her stomach all night.

This morning I was supposed to drive Little Kat to school. Turned out he was not feeling well either. So he stayed home with Kit Kat.

Momoko called me today at work. She is ill. She will not be going to work tomorrow.

I myself and not feeling that well. But I got to charge on and get to work. There is a lot to do, and I don't want my vacation next week to be affected.

It is tough times in the Chinwagger household.

Day 3 House 4

The final house for today had some hunks playing football in a nearby field. The neighborhood seemed nice. There was a whole lot of street parking in front of the house. The second floor had a decorative balcony in the front. Entry had a double door. Basement bathroom, including the tub, were nice.

Every home has some drawbacks. Kitchen ceiling here had some damage. Master bedroom bathroom only had a shower. The second bedroom upstairs stunk. The back yard had the shape of a pie (the center piece which comes to a point). There was a humming noise on the main level. You could feel the vibration on the kitchen floor. What the heck?

The price was good at $280k. The shower in the master bathroom sealed the deal as a no.

Day 3 House 3

The third house had a whole lot of street parking. This was due to the side load garage. Kitchen had a nice marble floor. It also had a gas stove. Other rooms in main level had great brown carpet. Small deck overlooked level back yard. The master bedroom had a huge sitting room with fireplace! Yee haw.

The basement had some fans running. It also had a musty smell from some obvious water damage. The main level had a smell too. The neighbor behind the house was higher up, with a yard sloping down to this one. The basement ceiling was obviously patched as well. The front of the house was a major street.

It was a shame to pass on this one. The master bedroom and master bedroom bath were awesome.

Day 3 House 2

Did not like the basketball court on the street of the second house. The house smelled like dog throughout. The kitchen ceiling had water damage. Most of the carpets were shot. Back yard had a steep slope down.

A few things were good. All bedrooms were big. Deep pantry. Pull down to storage over garage. Had a shed. Laundry was in a separate room on the main level. Huge tub in master bedroom bath. Sky light in hall bath upstairs.

It would cost too much to fix up this foreclosure of a house. Keep on searching.

Saturday, March 20, 2010

Day 3 House 1

Went house shopping again today. First one on the list was close to Momoko's school. The kitchen has a center island. The cabinets were very tallAll the bedrooms had good closet space. There was a big tub in the master bedroom. The master bedroom bathroom also had a separate shower with a seat. Nice.

Now for the bad news. The neighborhood was not the good. The main level had no carpets. The garage was small and smelly. All bedrooms were small. Little yard meant you were close to the neighbors. The basement was unfinished.

Getting Out Early

We used to exercise every night as a family. I would walk the treadmill. Momoko did the elliptical. And Kit Kat rode the stationary bike. Somehow we got off track. Recently Kit Kat has been skipping exercise because she is riding her bike after school.

Friday afternoon I made sure I got off work early. I waited for Kit Kat to come home so we could ride our bikes together. Momoko had a lot of chores for Kit Kat to do. By the time she was done, she was too tired to ride bikes.

Little Kat said he wanted to ride. However he was sick this past week. I wondered whether it was a good idea. He convinced us that he was all well. We ran around out street a couple times. Then we headed down the neighborhood. We decided against going uphill much. Little Kat took me to a cul de sac curve that he called the jellybean. Unfortunately Little Kat got sick later that night. no more biking for him, at least until he is truly better.

Chinese Buffet

Today I had to report to our company headquarters to fill out some paperwork. Me and the boys all went there. One of us keeps talking about this monster Chinese buffet by headquarters. We planned to go to lunch there today.

After signing the forms, we wanted to dash out the door. However one of us invited another dude from headquarters. Bad move. This other guy invited a couple other people. I am not against a big party for lunch. But we ended up waiting forever for everybody to be ready.

Whenever I go to headquarters, I need to get on the road super early. Otherwise traffic kills me. The problem was that I stayed up real late last night. I am talking until 3:45am. Was thinking a lot about the possible move to a new house. Then after I shut my eyes, my alarm goes off at 5:00am. Ouch. At least I had enough time to get a couple sandwiches at McDonald's for the ride west to headquarters.

Little Patrol Man

Today I went to pick up Little Kat from school. Momoko could not drive him home due to her college class. I used to wait for Little Kat in front of the gym. Now I just arrive a bit later and meet him by his patrol post.
At first I was a bit unimpressed. Little Kat seemed to just stand there with his paws in his pocket. I don't know if he was bored or just uncomfortable. In my mind I wondered if Little Kat had turned out to be some wimpy hall monitor or something.
Then I saw Little Kat go into action. It was quite impressive. He did not need to say anything to anybody. He moved the traffic of kids using just some hand motions. For example, another cat was fooling around the wrong bus. Little Kat gave him a hand motion to come over, then he pointed for the cat to get back in line with the rest of the kids.
At other times cats would try to go to the wrong side of the traffic, attempting to walk in the wrong direction. Little Kat would put one paw out to halt then, and another to point them in the right direction. Another time a cat tried to go out the wrong door. Little Kat gave him the evil eye and twitched his head in the direction of the correct door to exit.
I am not sure where Little Kat got all this authority. Perhaps it was because his boss (the gym teacher) was standing 10 yards behind him. All it would take is for Little Kat to alert the boss. Nobody wants to mess with the gym teacher. Or maybe it was that neon patrol belt around empowering him. I do know that Little Kat was directing traffic like a Little Man, not a mini mouse.

Shopping Surprise

Today Momoko stayed home from work. I took Little Kat to school. The guy could not stay awake in the car. After I dropped him off, I watched him bounce along on the sidewalk going to school. He must have sensed an eye on him, because he looked back at me.

Everyone at work kept trying to give me work. I told people that I could not get all this stuff done today. I had to return to school to pick up Little Kat. They got the message one way or another. When Kit Kat got home, Momoko declared that she could not go shopping today.

Kit Kat was sick. But we forged on to the grocery store. We skipped the local store that got held up at gunpoint last night. Instead we went to the upscale store. The damage came out to the tune of $200 large. We were prepared with a detailed list. The only item we could not find was chicken bouillon. I had Kit Kat keep asking store personnel until one of them told us where it was. Too bad they were all wrong. Another customer took pity on us and showed us the real way. However when we got to the check out, the bouillon kept beeping. The cashier said it had been recalled. We decided to get out of that store.

Day 3 House 4

Normally I only like to see 3 houses max on any given day. However there was one more that looked good on paper. It listed at $298k. It was a short sale. Taxes were 5k, which is not bad. The show stopper for Momoko was that Kit Kat would have to change high schools if we moved here.

My Game is Mazeband

The time has come again for me to enter my yearly programming contest. We have exactly one week to create a PC game that looks like the great "Angband".

Unfortunately I have been very busy this week. I am in charge of the team at work. And me and Momoko have been house hunting. Finally I am driving around Kit Kat and Little Kat because Momoko is busy with her class work.

So I have not been able to put a lot of time into my game. At least I took care of the main goal: I wanted to draw a simple maze, with different rooms interconnected. Now I just need to put in some type of goal for the player (get the gold?), and I am going to declare the game done.

Dangerous Stunts

Little Kat and I went to visit my mom. We did not stay long. So we headed home by highway. We saw two cats on motorcycles. They guys slowed down and were motioning to each other with their hands. At first I thought they were deciding on where to go.

In my rear view mirror I figured out what the commotion was about. The one motorcycle cat popped a wheelie. He must have been going 65 miles per hour. And he rode it for a long time. I told Little Kat to look. But he said he could not look, expecting the guy to fall off and be crushed by highway traffic.

This is where the weird part comes in. The cat rides a wheelie right off the highway onto the off ramp. Whew. Good thing he needed to exit. Little Kat and I drove on. Later one of the motorcycle pair zoomed past us going 90 to 100 miles per hour. Those cats just don't want to live long.

Searching for Sofa

Last weekend we visited a furniture store. I think we sat on almost all the sofas in the store. Momoko wants a sectional sofa. Little Kat thought we should get this cool sofa. It had drink holders and a secret deep compartment under the arm rests. Check out the picture above.
The problem is that we don't need all this. We just need a low cost sectional that feels good. It seems that is a hard combination to get. That reminds me of Momoko's house hunt. She is trying to find us a new house in the good school district. We want a two car garage. The master bedroom bathroom need a bathtub. A total of three full baths would be nice.
The style of home we want is a colonial. That's the one that has three levels. Of course we would love if all three levels were finished. And I like gas powered stoves, as well as gas water heater and furnace. All these things we want we can find. The only problem is that houses that meet all those specs cost a lot of money locally. We need to find a gem, a great deal. I hope there is a diamond in the rough somewhere around here.

Visting Mom

Today I had to get out of work early. Momoko needed me to pick up Little Kat from school. Little Kat and I went to the store to find some flowers to give to my mom. Then we went and visited both my mom and dad.

We stayed a while and chatted. However we had to get back home. It was Little Kat's turn to cook dinner. Of course Kit Kat was home long before Little Kat and I got home.

Little Kat cooked us up some chicken. But we ran out quickly. Kit Kat was hungry, and Momoko was not home yet from her meetings. Little Kat had to cook a second batch of chicken.

Pizza Hut Failure

Momoko saw an ad for Pizza Hut pizzas. She asked if I could pick her up a Supreme pizza while she went to her college class. I figured Momoko is a hard worker, and she deserves a pizza at the very least. So I agreed.

I picked up Little Kat from school today. He stayed after school to attend a club. Momoko already left for her college class. We came home and got Kit Kat. Then we headed to Pizza Hut.

Kit Kat navigated to a new location for Pizza Hut. The local restaurant has bad service. I should have known the alternate location would be bad as well. There was no salad bar for dine in customers.

Little Kat designed his own chicken and bacon pizza. Me and Kit Kat opted for the Supreme. The pizza crust was "hand tossed". But it was not as buttery as I remember it. Since there was no salad bar, there was no satisfaction.

Poor Pizza Hut. Their advertising got us to come. But their poor service and missing salad bar will ensure I don't return. Might have to try the Mom and Pop's pizza joint next time.

The Weekend

The whole family woke up early Saturday. Kit Kat had to sell girl scout cookies at the post office. The rest of the family drove to a new housing development I saw on the Internet.

We spied this single family house development. All the houses had 2 car garages that I want. This development was near the first elementary school I attended.

Momoko, Little Kat, and I then went to Burger King. It was still breakfast time there. We waited until this furniture store nearby opened. Then we sat down on all kinds of sectional sofas.

Later we picked Kit Kat up. And we had to get some Mexican food. This was turning into a busy weekend. And it was only early Saturday afternoon.
