Kit Kat is in

Kit Kat got two pieces of mail today. One was a small envelope from her current community college. Might be some tax forms or something. She also got a big envelope from the four year college she applied to. She was accepted into the college. Woo hoo.

Her new college sent her a fridge magnet with their name on it. I think she is supposed to take a picture of herself with the magnet in the background. Word has gotten around and Kit Kat friends are excited and calling.

Now that the fun part is over, the business of the matter comes next. She has to pay some kind of fee to enroll. Then she needs to pay a fee to secure some on campus housing. You know the drill. The fees keep coming. Oh well.

So we have about six more months of living with Kit Kat. Then she moves out to the dorms or apartments to start the fall 2015 semester at the school of her choice. Luckily one of her best friends already goes to school there. Good luck Kit Kat.

Snow Day

I woke up early today. I was supposed to report to my company's main office across town. Unfortunately it snowed last night. Momoko and Little Kat were off from school. I decided to work from home instead. The goal of going in was to meet some people on my new team. Yesterday they stayed home because of weather. It is worse today, so I stayed home too.

Momoko and Little Kat got out early and shoveled our driveway. Luckily I don't think the snow was too deep. Kit Kat declined to help, since her college was open today. I started work around my normal time. It was nice to wake up and head downstairs to do my work. I dislike the commute to the office now that telecommuting is an option.

I had to work through my normal lunch break. That's okay. Afterwards I went out and bought five bags of rock salt. There is one store that always has a supply. I think that is because they charge more. They had a bunch of ice melt alternatives for more money. I prefer the cheaper (and better) American rock salt.

Since I skipped lunch, there was still some time to do more errands at lunch. There was some mold on the ceiling in Momoko's and my bedroom. I went into the attic to investigate what was going on. It was very cramped up there. Plus there is no floor. I need to step on the rafter beams. It was truly difficult to navigate. I could not get anywhere near the location above the mold in our room. The roof slanted too sharply. Oh well. I bleached out bedroom ceiling and moved on.

Dangerous Ride

I watched two movies with my brother today. In between, my brother grabbed some dinner from McDonald's. I was not hungry due to a large lunch. So I decided to go eat dinner with Momoko and Little Kat after the second movie.

Momoko presented a couple options for dinner. I decided on a new Hibachi Japanese steak house. Turns out it was fast food take-out Hibachi. We decided to skip it and go to the traditional Hibachi we know and love.

Little Kat had to make a tough left turn against traffic to get to the Hibachi place. The traffic was not bad. However he veered into the oncoming traffic lane. Not good. The guy in the oncoming traffic lane did not hit us. The parking lot was full. We waited and grabbed a spot when someone left.

The restaurant was full. We had to wait to get a seat. The cook did not give Little Kat any sauce. I was paying some big bucks for his dinner. So I eventually told the guy to hook a brother up. Things worked out. The chef gave us (especially Little Kat) a lot of extras.

On the way home, Little Kat decided to take the back road home. He waited at a stop light and needed to make a left at an intersection. For some reason he did not see an oncoming car. He did stop after Momoko and I screamed for a while. The moral of this story is that Little Kat needs more driving practice.

Extra Baggage

I have been going into my customer's office every day this month. At first I was only supposed go to the first month of January. However my boss had his security clearance expire. He could not work on the project until he got recertified. Then his computer broke. I got to do his job. That means I need to report to the customer location all month. Yay.

I lug around my work computer. They did give me a nice carrying bag. It protects the computer and makes it a little easier to carry. The thing is still heavy. I have had this bag for about six years. Just today I noticed a secret compartment in it. I wondered what, if anything I would find in there. Turns out there were some computer cables and a strange external device.

At home, I googled the product number of the device. The thing is a 3.5 inch external floppy disk drive. Does anybody use those any more? I must have been carrying this thing around for six years, not even knowing it was in there. Today I stick the extra baggage in the closet. I can't imagine needing it on the road. I had better check my bag for other goodies hiding in there.

Amazon Credits

I am an Amazon Prime member. That means I get free two day shipping on qualifying purchases. Now this is not entirely free. I need to pay an annual membership fee. However I got the student discount, so I paid half as much as everyone else. It pays to go to school.

Normally I use the free two day shipping on everything I buy from Amazon. Once in a while, I purchase an item that does not qualify for free shipping. The real bonus is that when the product does qualify, you get it delivered in two days. Speedy!

Sometimes I am in no hurry to receive the item. Amazon gives me the option to receive the item at normal shipping speeds. They reward me with credits that I can apply to certain purchases. So far I have saved up three dollars worth of such credits. So I used them today to purchase a digital book.

Speaking of digital books, I get to rent a book once a month for free because I am in Amazon Prime. You know I take advantage of this offer. I love getting a good value for my money. This month I have an extra book I downloaded using my credits. Amazon makes it really easy to love them.

Doctor Who Marathon

Kit Kat studied hard this semester at school. I think she did well. She did not visit her friends at their dorms. I guess good grades come first. Now that they are in winter break, we hardly see Kit Kat any more.

Kit Kat goes over her friend's house every night. They meet up to watch old episodes of Doctor Who. Both her friend are big fans of Doctor Who. Now they got Kit Kat hooked. She spends a lot more time on the weekends with her friends too.

If all goes as planned, this is the last semester for Kit Kat at her school. She should be earning an associates degree and moving to a four year college. Again, if Kit Kat gets her way, she will be moving into the dorms at the four year college of her choice.

We got to make the most of the time that Kit Kat is still here at home. But this Doctor Who is getting in the way. I guess we shall see if Kit Kat buckles down and hits the books when the spring semester starts up. If not, and she does not visit her friends at their dorms, we will have one more semester to enjoy Kit Kat's company.

Getting Chilly

I went into the office yesterday. The communute was terrible. Highway by our house was a parking lot. At least the kids had cleaned off the driveway by the time I got home. At night I decided to have Little Kat drive me around. I wanted to make sure he could drive in the snow/ice.

We ended up driving to Little Kat's school. He drove a bit fast for the conditions. But he knew how to not get stuck on the ice. Afterwards, we discovered the new location of the local 7-Eleven store. I picked up some Ruffles potato chips for Momoko. Also got her some torilla chips plus queso. Little Kat wanted some salsa chip but they were out. He opted for some guacamole chips.

Today I went into the office again. The drive was good. However on the way home, I discovered my cheap driving gloves had a hole in them. Luckily Grannie Kat gave me an Amazon gift card for Christmas. Time to put that credit to good use. I am buying some grippy gloves from Britain. I hope them come soon.

Fishy Good Time

I love my Jackpot Party slot machine app on my iPad. However I never seem to have any virtual credits in that game. My holdings go down to zero every time I play. The Fishy Slots app, however, always has a large sum in my kitty all the time. So I play it more often.

This week I had a first. I got all sharks in every row. Sharks are wild. So this combination was special and gave me a lot of credits. Then something every more astouding happened this week. I got five jackpots to line up in a row. Not only did I get a big bonus in credits, my name appeared on the upper left hand corner of the screen as the latest jackpot winner.

Everyone who played Fishy Slots would see my screen name in their game. I was crowned king. My reign would only last a day until the next player won the jackpot bonus. But I got my 15 minutes of fame. I am at such a high level in the game that these big payouts did not even level me up. It was still nice to win the big money for a change.

Hard Day at the Office

I need to go work at my customer's site all next week. So I wanted to spend some time with my dad today. I could not get the day off from work. But I figured I could work out of my dad's basement and eat lunch with him.

When I arrived at my dad's house, he was busy. Therefore I got busy getting to work. There was a problem detected by the customer. I worked on it in the morning. Then there were some last minute changes we needed to figure out for a software delivery.

I ended up having work work through lunch. I was really hungry. I did get a break to drive to McDonald's to get something to eat as we finished up our changes. Unfortunately I could not spend any time with my dad. Oh well. Maybe I can swing by next week after work?
