Tree Attack

A large tree branch fell down in the back yard. It must have been due to some bad storms. The branch was huge. It almost looked like a tree itself. Luckily it was far away from the house. However it did not look good. It was propped up in the air by the branches on the big branch.

Kit Kat and I finally got around to dealing with it today. We decided to cut off some of the branches supporting it. That way it would come down to the ground and not be an eyesore. It was tough work. The branch was not dead wood. I cut through a major branch. Then Kit Kat did too.

I had to bring over the ladder to reach up to another big branch holding up the branch. I finished chopping the big branch. When I pulled away this branch I cut off, the whole big branch (tree) came falling down. Unfortunately it smashed into the ladder damaging it. Now this is a metal heavy duty ladder. The hinged metal that connects the two sides got bent. I tried to bend it back into place since this was a birthday gift to me. I guess it was a good thing it hit the ladder instead of me. This was a huge branch that fell down. Somehow we need to get rid of all these branches in the back yard.

Gutters and Curbs

We had to cancel tennis late this week due to rain. I went and raked up some leaves on the backyard hill. It was hard because the rain was coming down when I did it. The leaves were very heavy due to being wet.

Today I came home and decided to do more leaf removal for exercise. First I raked the leaves out of the curbs in front of the house. Those leaves were wet too. Then I climbed the ladder and scooped the leaves out of the gutters in front of the house. That was hard because I had to keep moving the ladder to reach all the gutters.

I hope the weather is good this weekend. Then the family can come out and support me in removing the leaves from the front lawn. It might sound easy. But the leaves have invaded our gardens. Got to remove the leaves without pulling out all the mulch.

Climbing Trees and Chasing Planes

Momoko and I got up early this morning and headed to the airport. The traffic was light. So we stopped off at Burger King for some breakfast close to the airport. Weird people kept try to enter the exit from security in the airport. That causes all kinds of automatic alarms to go off. It kept us awake.

We saw the kids pass the exit. Kit Kat was sporting a ball cap. Little Kat had a new shirt on with words like "welcome da lobsta". He was proud of it because he bought it with his own money.

When we got home I decided to finally deal with a tree situation on our street. Down the street there is a tree in a neighbor's yard. The branches hang down over top of the street where we drive. The wood hits the top of our cars as we drive by. I gave the owner some time to realize and deal with this tree. No luck.

I packed up my handy truck with my ladder, saw, and gloves. Then I drove past the place where the branches hung. I parked my truck so nobody would drive around the corner and knock me off my ladder. The larger branches were hard to cut off. I think I did a good job. Packed all the limbs into my truck and drove back home. In the driveway I chopped up the limbs and bagged then for the trash man.

Finally this afternoon I bleached our shower. The mold just keeps coming back. Bleach is the only cure. The problem is that the bleach fumes always knock me out. Hopefully I can get some more rest later. Good thing I took this day off work to deal with the kids. Otherwise I would really be knocked out.

The Ladder

Even though we encountered a lot of people at the airport, the kittens made it to their destination.

After dropping off the kittens, Black and I came home. We talked for a bit before he had to go to work. I made myself a yummy breakfast (scrambled eggs with cheese and thin bagels).

After breakfast, I sat down to do a little reading. I heard a lot of commotion outside. I peeked out the window and to my surprise there was an unknown man outside placing a ladder on the house. I was a little taken back because Black always lets me know when workers are coming to house. I thought about going outside and talking to the man but then decided I needed to talk to Black.

I called him at work and he was not expecting anyone. He made a phone call and it seemed it was the person Black hired to paint the shutters but there had been some miscommunication about calling before coming. I was just happy to hear that the strange man was suppose to be here and I did not have to do anything but stay out of the way. I am sure the shutters will look grand!

Battling the Grass

Me and Little Kat sneak out of the house. It is hard to see anything. The grass has grown higher than our heads. That won't do. So I talk Little Kat into helping me chop down this jungle. Little Kat says we should eat our way through. I try to munch a little, but this grass tastes like, well, grass.

I go back into the house. After climbing up onto a shelf, I borrow a set of keys to the shed. Now we are cooking. Luckily there is a ladder in the shed. Little Kat climbs the ladder to a high shelf. He grabs a pair of shears with his mouth. So when he starts biting, the shears do some mean cutting of grass. He makes little progress. I decide we need more firepower to get the job done.

Somehow I manage to open the doors to the big shed in the back yard. I tie the starter cord to the fence. Then I get a running start and lunge onto the mower. It gets the mower going down the hill, causing the starter rope to pull away from the mower. The engine makes a bit of noise, then dies. I have to pull that heavy mower up the hill 3 times before the engine starts and remains on. My paw can move the lever that causes the mower to go forward. I am too small to steer it with the human handle. But when I claws grab ahold of one when darn thing can go either right or left.

I start to get the hang of steering this big lawn mower for one straight line through the yard. That is when I find that I cannot steer it into a circle. The mower bangs up against the white fence on the side of the yard. A couple white pickets break and fall into the neighbor's year. Luckily I spring up and cut off the mower motor. There has got to be a better way to get rid of all this grass. Anybody know the phone number for some hungry cows?
